Cocos Nucifera Oil

Cocos Nucifera Oil

Coconut oil

INCI: COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL

Type: Vegetable oil

Origin: Cold-pressed or refined from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts ( Cocos nucifera )

What it does:

Coconut oil is a nourishing, lipid-rich emollient and occlusive. It is semi-solid at room temperature and melts upon contact with skin. Its primary functions are: Cleansing and dissolving: An effective, gentle solvent that helps dissolve makeup, sunscreen, sebum, and other oil-based impurities without harsh surfactants. Skin conditioning: Forms a protective, occlusive layer to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), locking in moisture and supporting the skin barrier. Emollient: Softens, smooths, and nourishes the skin's surface.

Why we use it:

We use it specifically in our oil-to-milk cleanser for its excellent solvent properties and ability to melt away impurities while remaining gentle. Its use in a rinse-off format allows us to leverage its benefits without the comedogenic risk associated with leave-on products. It provides effective cleansing with a touch of nourishing emollience. Fatty acid profile: Rich in saturated fatty acids, primarily lauric acid (approx. 45-50%), which has antimicrobial properties. It has a high oleic acid content relative to other saturated fats, contributing to its spreadability.
